DON’T FALL FOR IT! Scammers are calling area residents impersonating Detective Lt. Jason White and demanding payment in gift cards. The number is showing up as City Hall. It is sad, but with today’s technology, it is easy for scammers to fake these numbers.
NO LEGITIMATE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY DOES THIS!!!
The names can and should be expected to change. Next, they could be impersonating any name at our department. The key to remember is that we do not call demanding you go to the store to purchase gift cards to pay a fine, bond, etc.
Any calls from us about fines would come from the court clerk. If you want peace of mind that it is in fact a scam, call the municipal court clerk at 256-725-4163 and press the option for municipal court clerk. The clerk can confirm if you have any outstanding fines or if someone arrested has a bond with municipal court. Do not let the caller connect you, transfer you or give you another number.
